This 2-CD album set is a compilation of their finest works. The music was recorded at Carnegie Hall on June 20, 21, & 22, 1975 by Robert Plant. Renaissance got it's start as The Yard Birds (whose original members included Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and the 3 founders of Led Zeppelin) in the early 1970s. All the original members were eventually replaced by guitarist Michael Dunford, Vocalist Annie Haslam, drummer Terry Sullivan, bassist Jon Camp and keyboardist John Tout. Annie Haslam, who also performs on piano and as lead singer, has a 4 octave range, and has gone on to produce several solo albums. CD 1 features "Black Flame". “Black Flame” is an artful melodic blend of guitar, keys, and vocals with symphony enhancements. The sound of the harpsichord also gives this piece a baroque feel. CD 2 features the crowning glory of their career, the 25-minute cantata, "Song of Scheherazade, recorded with members of the London Symphony Orchestra and a small chorus. Sharing Widget |
