Much appreciated.
I think it's great. I always prefer high resolution/bitrate. I wouldn't have minded if the filesize/resolution was even higher.
The quality is quite poor. The increased bitrate of this rip does nothing to help simply poor encoding.
The file size (1.37 GB) seems crazy for that resolution (624x352). Are you sure you posted the correct video description?

It looks as though you may have posted a duplicate description from your other torrent for the debate, but you forgot to update the details?
Yes. It's 3 hours long. I generally go 350~ megabytes for a 40 minute show so that seemed like the right file size. There's another rip on here that's a smaller size + higher resolution. I hope my bitrate is better at least.
Thanks for the confirmation. I'm still in the process of downloading it (almost done now). I'll continue to seed for the next 24 hours.

Another copy I have already looked at was ~900 MB @ 600 kbps for 720x404 video, which seemed good enough for a video of essentially talking heads. I was hoping the res on yours was going to be a bit higher because of the size. But, maybe the bitrate will clean it up a bit.
-
In any event, thanks for making it available! I'll be back to rate it later.
I dont like to disparage an honest effort - especially when its something that I particularly appreciate. But the quality on this is really lacking. Not knowing what your source material was, its hard to try to give any constructive criticism on encoding settings, but the filesize is way too large for this low quality/resolution video.
-
I'm not sure if this is a result of using Level-3 settings (as opposed to Level-4), but the higher bitrate for this type of video (stationary/documentary-style) does nothing to help the overall quality.
My source is mediocre. Diamond USB capture dongle hooked up to an RCA plug. I'm not sure what you mean in regards to encoding. I use AviDemux to crop & encode. Mpeg4AVC with the encoding mode set to video size (two pass) and fast first pass turned off.

Have you looked at the other copy? If it's better quality + lower file size maybe I should axe this torrent.

Do you think it's my source that's the problem or just the size? If it's the source then I'll probably try staying away from anything I think someone else could release and keep it to obscure stuff. (Because hey, if no one else is going to post it then something is better than nothing.)

If you have any tips on the size/encoding front and have any software/guide recommendations link me up. Oh, I'm pretty sure increasing the resolution to 720x404 isn't possible. By the time I crop the hardcoded bars off the initial rip it's below that resolution.
