The El Dorados provide more than backup as a number of the tracks give rise to a testifying gospel jam. This is Luzanna soul food for your heart & soul. Better get right! Reverend Charlie Jackson had been his playing his guitar and singing his testimony to the Lord since the early 1950s, but never got anything on records until 1970, when a few singles leaked out on a tiny New Orleans label. After a stroke left him sidelined for many years, he recorded the bulk of this album some 23 to 26 years later. Producer George Paulus pairs him with a spartan rhythm section on these 13 tracks, and the results are the kind of gospel music one would have assumed died with the '50s. The big bonus that makes this session work so wonderfully is the addition to the lineup of the El Dorados on backing and answering vocals in a rare gospel session appearance. When Reverend Charlie gets into a trance on these sides, a one-chord modal groove can go on for four or five minutes, with the opening "Wrapped Up" clocking in at 6:49.
