Modern Folk
CD Baby Review Rickey Pittman--songwriter, folksinger, storyteller, Civil War reenactor--has been playing some kind of music as long as he can remember. His father (from Haskell County Texas) taught him to play mandolin, a bit of steel guitar, bass guitar, but it was the six-string guitar that has stuck with him. Pittman has a huge song list. He has held onto the traditional country and western song list that he learned from his father, but today you will hear him at festivals and taverns performing Scots-Irish ballads, songs of the Civil War, or Americana. He incorporates stories into his presentations at schools, libraries and festivals when he can, believing that every song, like every person, has a story that needs to be told. CD Baby Author's Notes Rickey E. Pittman, storyteller, author, and folksinger was the Grand Prize Winner of the 1998 Ernest Hemingway Short Story Competition, and is originally from Dallas, Texas. Pittman presents his stories, music and programs at schools, libraries, organizations, museums, Civil War Reenactments, and Celtic festivals throughout the South. His first CD of songs from the American Civil War, entitled Bard of the South, has just been released. Pittman is a certified Secondary Gifted English teacher and currently teaches freshman composition for Louisiana Delta Community College, the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Virginia College Online. A collection of original and traditional songs and stories of America's Civil War told in music with guitar, banjo and mandolin. Sharing Widget |
