Description
Rod Marsh
"Caught Marsh, Bowled Lillee" - As a player, Rod Marsh still retains the record of 95 wickets in a bowler/fielder combination and, on leaving the game, held the record for the most dismissals by a wicket keeper in Test cricket. He was known for an amazing ability to take catches in horizontally in mid-air, surprising for a man of quite a stocky stature. As a cricket coach and administrator, Marsh was a coach at the Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide since its inception and was its director from 1990 to 2001. Marsh was the Director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) national academy from October 2001 to September 2005. During this time, England went from being a mediocre team to challenging Australia as the best team in Test cricket in 2005, they regained the Ashes after 16 years in Australian hands with a 2-1 win. This Recording: "Rod Marsh: Wicket-Keeping" From the type of cassette and cover, this looks likely to have been produced in 1980 or 1981, while he was still playing. He mentions during the "My Life in Cricket" segment that players weren't paid very much at the time this tape was recorded, so this was likely a bit of a money spinner, but, the experience of recording it may well have a historical place in being formative in his decision to take up coaching after retirement from the playing field. I hope you'll enjoy this cricket rarity, recorded by a master keeper in the prime of his career and produced by a local company in his home city of Perth, Western Australia. Sharing Widget |
