Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers 2014 - Emergency Situation [EAC FLAC] Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers in 2014 Wikipedia: Rod Piazza (born December 18, 1947, Riverside, California) is an American blues harmonica player and singer. He has been playing with his band The Mighty Flyers since 1980 which he formed with his pianist wife Honey Piazza. Their boogie sound combines the styles of jump blues, West Coast blues and Chicago blues. Emergency Situation Artist: Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers Title: Emergency Situation Producer: Rod Piazza, Jerry del Giudice, Edward Chmelewski Release Date: June 24, 2014 Label: Blind Pig Records Catalog: BPCD 5160 ASIN: B00K0NAOTO Genre: Blues, Modern Electric Blues, Harmonica Blues, Jump Blues, West Coast Blues Duration: 47:01 AllMusic Review by Mark Deming: Rod Piazza began his career in the mid-'60s as a Young Turk who, like plenty of young rockers of the day, was putting his own stamp on the blues. Almost 50 years on, Piazza is a seasoned veteran who is still paying homage to the vintage sounds that first turned his head around, and on his 15th solo album, 2014's Emergency Situation, Piazza is still showing what he's learned over the years from the masters. Piazza's powerful, overdriven sound, clearly modeled on Little Walter and George "Harmonica" Smith, is as distinctive as ever, and the most exciting moments here are the ones where Piazza cuts loose and wails with his band, blowing gale-force solos on numbers like "Neighbor, Neighbor" and "Colored Salt." Piazza is an effective ensemble player, too, and his band is in solid form here, especially guitarist Henry Carvajal, sax players Ron Dziubla and Jim Jedekin, and pianist Honey Alexander, as they split the difference between Chicago blues and vintage R&B. However, while Piazza and his Flyers play with spirit and style here, the material isn't always as satisfying; they fare well on a pair of numbers from James "Wee Willie" Wayne, and do a bang-up version of Amos Milburn's "Milk and Water," but covering Lee Dorsey's "Ya-Ya" and Johnny Ace's "The Clock" only makes the group sound pale compared to the distinctive originals, and the title cut, an original by Piazza, is an ill-considered number about a bluesman with career problems, suggesting Piazza thinks folks are losing interest in him. Judging from Emergency Situation, Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers are still a force to be reckoned with on the blues circuit, playing with authority and fire, but they need to spend some time with a songwriter worthy of their skills before their next visit to the recording studio. 01.
