Ronnie Earl 2003 - I Feel Like Goin' On [EAC FLAC] Ronnie Earl Ronnie Earl at the 1996 Riverwalk Blues Festival in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Wikipedia: Ronnie Earl (born Ronald Horvath, March 10, 1953, Queens, New York, United States) is an American blues guitarist and music instructor. Earl collected blues, jazz, rock and soul records while growing up. He studied American History at C.W. Post College on Long Island for a year and a half, then moved to Boston to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and Education at Boston University where he would graduate in 1975. He spent a short time teaching handicapped children. It was during his college years that he attended a Muddy Waters concert at the Jazz Workshop in Boston. After seeing Waters perform, Earl took a serious interest in the guitar, which he had first picked up in 1973. His first job was as a rhythm guitarist at The Speakeasy, a blues club in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In addition to playing in the Boston blues scene, Earl traveled twice by Greyhound Bus to Chicago, where he was introduced to the Chicago blues scene by Koko Taylor. I Feel Like Goin' On Artist: Ronnie Earl Title: I Feel Like Goin' On Producer: Ronnie Earl Release Date: March 18, 2003 Label: Stony Plain Records Catalog: SPCD 1289 ASIN: B00008J2PR Genre: Blues, Contemporary Blues, Modern Electric Blues Duration: 74:47 AllMusic Review by Al Campbell: Guitarist Ronnie Earl recorded the majority of the instrumental release I Feel Like Goin' On live in the studio with no overdubbing. As one of the best contemporary blues guitarists around, Earl naturally shows off his prowess on these 11 cuts, with sturdy assistance from Dave Limina on piano/organ, Jimmy Mouradian on bass, Lorne Entress on drums, and special guest guitarist Jose Alvares. On the whole, I Feel Like Goin' On is tight, passionate, and gritty, especially on the soul-blues of "Hey Jose," "Blues for Otis Rush," "Howlin' for My Darlin'," and "Travelin' Heavy." While the majority of the album is uptempo, Earl does slow down the pace on the beautiful ballad "Donna" and the traditional gospel-flavored "Mary Don't You Weep," featuring the only vocal appearance on the disc, by the Silver Leaf Gospel Singers. Amazon.com Review by Hal Horowitz: "I make this music in the hopes that I may touch your soul," says Ronnie Earl. "It is not fame that I seek or need." These words explain his low profile and encapsulate the vision of an emotionally driven musician. The statement’s truth rings out in every blistering guitar lick and solo on this predominantly instrumental release. As an authoritative axe slinger, Earl is less concerned with how many notes he plays than with the impact each holds. Like Mike Bloomfield (who he sounds eerily like on "Blues for Otis Rush") his style is lean, hungry, and fiery. Recorded live in the studio, Earl shifts from the traditional gospel of "Mary Don’t You Weep" (with guest vocalists the Silver Leaf Gospel Singers) to a sharp cover of Howlin' Wolf’s "Howlin' for My Darlin'." A mouth-watering unaccompanied showcase appropriately titled "Alone with the Blues" and the Peter Green-styled "Donna," where notes drip like mercury from his fingers, are also highlights. Tough yet expressive and always soulful, this is intensely moving blues from a gifted guitarist whose humility and sincerity are as affecting as his music. 01. Hey Jose 02. Blues For Otis Rush 03.
