In Los Angeles the morning of 16 May at the age of 67 years died Ronnie James Dio, former lead singer of Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf, and the leader of the solo project named after him. This was reported by the wife of musician Wendy Dio.
In a statement she said that Dio died at 7:45 am (13:45 GMT). Wendy Dio also notes that family and friends had to say goodbye to a musician before his death. At the end of November 2009 it was announced that Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Prior to this, he canceled the UK tour due to illness, details of which were not disclosed. Ronnie James Dio (real name - Ronald James Padavona) was born in 1942. His musical career began in the late '50s. In 1960 he formed the band Elf, later transformed into Rainbow, on which he played guitar in resigning from Deep Purple Ritchie Blackmore. Later Dio replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath. In 1982 he formed the band Dio, which has recorded 10 albums. Ronnie James Dio also participated in the supergroup Heaven And Hell c musicians former Black Sabbath Tommy Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Eppaysom.
