The occasion was the National Jazz Federation's annual concert presentation "The Jazz Scene". The place was London's luxury Royal Festival Hall, built in 1951 and blessed with some of the finest acoustics. The bands participating were the new Ronnie Scott Orchestra with Tony Crombie , the Tubby Hayes Orchestra, poll-winning clarinettist Vic Ash's Quartet, and the recently formed co-operative unit, the four-piece New Jazz Group.
