Sam Baker grew up in a prairie town, Itasca, TX, where he was exposed to a wide array of music as a child by his mother, a local church organist, and his father, who shared a hefty collection of country blues artists. A defining moment in Baker's life came in 1986 when he was traveling on a train in Peru. A terrorist bomb exploded and he was gravely injured, the passengers with whom he had made friends, not so lucky. His journey back to physical, emotional, and spiritual health formed his quiet and passionate view of the world we hear about in his songs. He has released three critically acclaimed albums, 2004's Mercy, 2007's Pretty World, and 2009's Cotton, and is looking forward to his 2013 release, Say Grace.
