As you can well imagine (and many who know me can attest), I take such claims VERY seriously, unlike "The Scene" who treat their efforts more and more like a job they don't want to do anymore. Unlike them, I Spot check everything I produce as it has MY name on it (or at least my moniker) and certainly my reputation with it.

One very important reason I take this so seriously is that I HAVE made the odd blunder or two. One episode of "Elementary" was only out by about 200 milliseconds (1/5 of a second), which is just enough to be very annoying to the discerning ear. Once you notice it, it's like the distraction is almost personal. And then there was the really big blunder with an episode of "Leverage" where I got the frame rate so wrong that it went out of sync by about ten seconds near the end of the show. To this day I have no idea why nobody complained. I put out a replacement, I think ... but still.\n

Anyway, I usually spot check by looking at scenes from about five or six places during the show, paying particular attention to seeing someone speak so I can match their lips to the sound. And I did it for this one (and seperately for the full size version - different source,, different encoding, a whole new set of circunstances that can go horribly wrong) if I'm not paying very close attention. Well, since seeing your comment I've gone back and did a much more intencisve spot check (30-40 instances of matcning lips to voice). And I'll be watching the whole thing carefully today (I generally encode what I want to watch, so it's no burden to pay close attention).\n

And I can see no place where the sound goes out of sync for even the briefest moment. And while I can and do make mistakes, this doesn't seem to be one of them. The deciding factor is not me, but you. One very important rule of thumb is if it's a single complaint, then look closely and have confidence that there is no error. However, when two or three or four people concur - then there is probably something there.\n

But with your single claim and close scrutiny by myself twice - I think I can safely say the problem must be on your end. This can happen for a variiety of reasons, none of which require any guile on your part. Maybe your computer is sluggish or overheating or you are doing some very CPU intensive operations in the background. My favorite mistake is to compensate for a sync issue on one file, then forgetting to take the offset away when I'm done watching and all of asudden everything *seems* out of sync.\n

And then there are times when I think i may see / hear something and it's just my mind playing tricks. This is because I know how a video is put together - The video and sound are actually two seperate things that it sometimes seems a miracle that anything syncs up at all. Then I found out about a method of encoding that workks well for one person, but makes it impossible for anyone to re-encode it later. It's called "variable frame rate". KarMa does some wonderful work to watch - but I can never get a re-encode of their stuff to sync and have stopped trying.\n

But lackng anything further (like a point in the show where you can clearly see a sync problem, or,, of course, maybe I'll spot something when I watch it completely through. But for now I have complete confidence that there is NO sync problem with this file.\n
