Schumann Papillons - Alfred Cortot, p (1935) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 67.41 MB)
DescriptionAlfred Cortot was among the giants of the piano in the first half of the 20th century. He never practiced enough, and readily admitted it. Nor did he honestly care. Though there were numerous dropped notes in any Cortot performance, his goal was creative inspiration. Where some others were note perfect but dull, each Cortot reading (including different recordings he made of the same work) was unique. He always analyzed thoroughly, but once absorbed, refused to let the notes bind him. He was a magnificent stylist, and has been called by some the last great romantic on the piano. This performance of Papillons was made in the EMI studios in London in 1935. A bio of Cortot is enclosed.
