Screwed - Neji-shiki (1998) Teruo Ishii/Asano Tadanobu

At the start this looks like a bad VHS transfer, but it really is just during the titles that you get that impression. The film itself has a bit of a washed out feel to it, and I can't say for sure whether it is intentional - it seems to fit the film well, in a strange eraserhead sort of way.



"Screwed", here, doesn't seem to have the sexual connotation here (though there is a bit of that here and there). Seems to be a slightly more straightforward physical violation being referred to. You wouldn't likely ruin your experience if you just forget about the meaning of the title.



Some pretty off the wall Butoh stuff at the beginning and end. And it frames the rest of the weirdness quite well.



Asano is pretty cool, as in slow, observer mode, and his character seems to be quite lost in some dream, trip, whatever, and girls just seem to like him and he can't seem to say no, and, and, and...
