Het 14-jarige jongetje Walter (Haley Joel Osment) moet de zomer doorbrengen in Texas
bij zijn twee nogal excentrieke en verbitterde ooms, Garth (Michael Caine) en Hub
(Robert Duvall). Walter valt echter in de ene verbazing na de andere wanneer zijn
oud-ooms hem verhalen vertellen over hun belevenissen in Noord-Afrika. De twee mannen
hebben daar in een land gewoond met mooie prinsessen, gouden bergen en rijke Sjeiks.
Of deze verhalen waar zijn maakt Walter niet uit. Hij voelt zich heel erg thuis bij
zijn 'nieuwe' familie. En ook de twee oude mannen zijn bijgedraaid en inmiddels erg
blij met het gezelschap van Walter. Dan komt Walters moeder weer terug om hem op te
halen...

'Secondhand Lions' is geschreven en geregisseerd door Tim McCanlies, die eerder het
script schreef van 'De IJzeren Reus' ('The Iron Giant'). Het is een komische
familiefilm die zich afspeelt in de vroege jaren zestig en gaat over een verlegen
jongen, gespeeld door Haley Joel Osment ('The Sixth Sense') die helemaal opbloeit
wanneer hij bij zijn oudooms in Texas verblijft. De eigenaardige en excentrieke ooms
worden briljant vertolkt door de twee oude rotten Robert Duvall en Michael Caine.

The 14-year-old boy Walter (Haley Joel Osment) is to spend the summer in Texas with
his two rather eccentric and embittered uncles, Garth (Michael Caine) and Hub (Robert
Duvall). However, Walter is one surprise after another when his old uncles tell him
stories about their experiences in North Africa. The two men have since lived in a
country with beautiful princesses, golden mountains and rich sheiks. Whether these
stories are true is not Walter. He feels very at home with his "new" family. And the
two old men are now giving ground and very happy with the company of Walter. Then
Walter's mother returned to pick him up ...

"Secondhand Lions" is written and directed by Tim McCanlies, who previously wrote the
script of 'The Iron Giant "(" The Iron Giant "). It is a family comedy film set in the
early sixties and is about a shy boy, played by Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense ")
