Set in 16th century war-torn Japan. Residents of the small Japanese village seek protection from frequent attacks of marauding gang of thieves. Offering only a handful of rice as a reward, they hire seven samurai, including pride Kikuchio (Toshiro Mifune), a son of a farmer, desperately seeking fame and approval. Led by the cool strategist Kambey, samurai build each relationship of mutual respect and respect, but remain distant from the villagers, knowing that their task may prove fatal.
