TRAMA:

Helen è una giovane donna che lavora nelle pubbliche relazioni ed è fidanzata con Gerry. Dopo essere stata bruscamente licenziata, si dirige in tutta fretta verso la metropolitana. Un aspetto molto importante della storia è che sull'ascensore andando via dal posto di lavoro le cade un orecchino e James glielo raccoglie. In quel momento la sua vita si divide in due dimensioni parallele:

Helen prende la metropolitana sulla metropolitana reincontra James che le ha appena raccolto l'orecchino in ascensore e cominciano a parlare (da prima Helen abbastanza scontrosa ma poi si scusa) e rincasando prima del tempo trova il fidanzato a letto con l'ex fidanzata Lydia; così si rifà una vita con l'affascinante James conosciuto su quella metropolitana. Si accorge poi di essere rimasta incinta e quando va a riferirlo a James scopre dalla sua segretaria che è all'ospedale con la moglie a trovare sua mamma. Helen è disperata e quando James la trova le spiega che sta ottenendo il divorzio e finge d'essere sposato per non recare troppo dolore alla madre in ospedale. I due si chiariscono e riconfermano i loro sentimenti reciproci. Subito dopo, mentre Helen attraversa la strada, passa un mezzo che la investe.

Helen perde la metropolitana e, chiamato un taxi, subisce un tentativo di scippo che la fa rincasare più tardi. Trova sì il fidanzato solo, ma anche indizi del passaggio di un'altra donna (l'ex fidanzata Lydia) come per esempio 2 bicchieri di brandy posti sul comodino di fronte la finestra e Gerry, per nascondere il tutto getta uno dei 2 bicchieri in un cestino offrendo la bibita a Helen come scusa. Ottiene un lavoro come cameriera e conduce una vita piena di sacrifici, sentendosi male diverse volte sul lavoro scopre così di essere incinta ma non trova mai il momento di dirlo al fidanzato Gerry, Gerry la tradisce nuovamente. Lei lo scopre perché Lydia li chiama entrambi a casa sua (a loro insaputa) per riferire loro d'essere incinta di Gerry. Helen sconvolta scappa, Gerry la insegue e litigando con lui cade dalle scale.

A questo punto le due storie si ricollegano: Helen è in ospedale e i medici dicono al fidanzato (James nel primo caso e Gerry nel secondo) che ha perso il bambino (i due ragazzi in entrambe le storie non sanno che Helen aspettasse un bambino da loro) ma che lei si riprenderà. Helen si riprende ed esce dall'ospedale. La Helen della seconda "storia" incontra James in ospedale sull'ascensore che sta uscendo anche lui dall'ospedale dal trovare sua mamma. A Helen cade l'orecchino e lui glielo raccoglie (come nella prima versione).
Questo film vuole far capire che comunque vada la tua storia alla fine il tuo destino si compirà ugualmente.

STORYLINE:

Arriving at work one morning, Helen discovers that she had been unjustifiably sacked from her PR job. She is returning home when an amazing thing happens, time reverses itself for a few seconds and a second version of herself is created. In one reality Helen catches the tube train, meets James and arrives home to find her loathsome Lothario lover Gerry cheating on her with his ex-girlfriend Lydia. In the other reality, Helen misses the tube train, gets mugged, goes to hospital and eventually arrives home to find Gerry alone in the shower. The two realities move forward in tandem; in one Helen leaves Gerry and forms a happy, new, loving relationship with James; in the other Helen's live becomes more and more wretched as she takes on two jobs to support her worthless, cheating boyfriend as he supposedly writes his novel but in fact carries on a torrid affair with Lydia.
