Sniper Elite III: Afrika to trzecia część serii snajperskich wojennych strzelanek. Grę wyprodukowało studio Rebellion, czyli ten sam zespół, który odpowiadał za dwie poprzednie odsłony.
Akcja ponownie osadzona jest w realiach II wojny światowej. Tym razem jednak autorzy porzucili lokacje europejskie i zamiast tego osadzili kampanię na terenach Afryki. Zmianie nie uległa natomiast postać głównego bohatera. Ponownie jest nim Karl Fishburne, czyli strzelec wyborowy pracujący dla dowództwa amerykańskich sił zbrojnych. Tryb dla pojedynczego gracza składa się z serii misji, w większości polegających na wyeliminowaniu konkretnego celu. Droga do niego jest zawsze trudna i wymaga często przekradania się między wrogimi oddziałami oraz cichego wykańczania nieprzyjacielskich żołnierzy. Możemy również przypuścić frontalny atak, co ściągnie nam na jednak głowę wszystkie okoliczne patrole.
W Sniper Elite III: Afrika powraca znak rozpoznawczy serii, czyli rozbudowana mechanika snajperska. Na wyższych poziomach trudności bierze ona pod uwagę takie aspekty jak prędkość i kierunek wiatru czy wpływ grawitacji na tor lotu kuli. Autorzy nie ograniczyli się do kopiowania pomysłów poprzedników. Zamiast tego wprowadzili również sporo nowych rozwiązań. Najważniejszym z nich jest pojawienie się sandboksowych map o otwartej strukturze. Zapewniają one graczom dużą swobodę wyboru metod oraz sposobu realizacji zadań i sprawiają, że każdy poziom można przechodzić wielokrotnie bez uczucia nudy, za każdym razem próbując innej taktyki. Jednocześnie większy nacisk położono na elementy skradankowe, które wzbogaciły się o tzw. system relokacji. Powoduje on, że po oddaniu kilku strzałów musimy szybko zmienić pozycję i gra daje nam znać, kiedy oddaliliśmy się wystarczająco daleko, abyśmy w spokoju rozpocząć poszukiwania innych słabych punktów w nieprzyjacielskich patrolach.
