Can you survive on Mars? Sol 0 is a Mars colonization real time strategy game where you develop the first Martian colony. Sol 0 imagines the near future, with technology that could be available in the next decade. Make use of the minerals and resources on the Martian surface to grow from the first rover to a self-sustaining colony that can survive independently from Earth.

Discover the Martian environment
Explore and mine methane emissions, subsurface ice, and mineral deposits on the Martian surface using a range of machinery from rovers to miners and bulldozers. Landing locations including ice caps, lava plains, and arid equatorial regions each offer distinct challenges to survival, and randomly generated maps provide extended replayability.

Become a self-sustaining colony
Grow from the first astronaut to the first hundred colonists by managing power, food, water, and oxygen. Make use of orbital satellites and ground-based radar to prepare for dust storms, meteorite impacts, and solar radiation. Cut off supply lines to Earth by 3D printing your own materials, and become a truly self-sustaining colony.

Conduct research to survive
Cross-breed bacterial strains obtained from Earth's extreme environments to increase food production on the Martian surface, and use the minerals and ore found on the surface to protect the colony from the harsh climate.


Changelog:

Sol 0 has now been upgraded to Unity 5.0 Pro, which brings a bit of a speed increase to the game. I did have to rewrite all my custom shaders, but other than that the upgrade process was painless. This update was mostly about optimization. I dug into Unity's profiler and managed to get some significant performance increases on both the GPU and CPU side. I've been a bit absent from the forums, mostly because I have been doing a lot of work on non-coding stuff laying the groundwork for a Steam release, and that's taken up a lot of the time that I would normally use to check out the forum discussions. Performance increases on both the GPU and CPU side. Mainly through optimizing how colonists work and how oxygen flows. Both systems are actually improved in addition to being much more optimized.

The AI has been improved. 0.52 and 0.50 were the first releases with the AI system for astronauts, and things are finally starting to get polished. Astronaut AI is still not perfect, but it's much improved.

Many small bug fixes relating to destroying and constructing buildings have been fixed. Astronauts and forklifts can still get stuck in the middle of pallets sometimes, I didn't quite get to fixing this one yet.
