Description
*Stan Getz, Billy Highstreet Samba, 1981
One of the all-time great tenor saxophonists, Stan Getz was known as "The Sound" because he had one of the most beautiful tones ever heard. During a period when Stan Getz was recording purely straight ahead jazz for Concord, he joined up with keyboardist Mitchel Forman, guitarist Chuck Loeb, bassist Mark Egan, drummer Victor Lewis and percussionist Bobby Thomas, Jr., for this session in 1981 in France. Forman, in fact, is the real center of the session, driving the sextet both rhythmically and through his interesting melodic ideas. First released in the U.S. in 1990, this finds the veteran tenor playing contemporary jazz, doing a good job of fitting into five Loeb and two Forman originals plus "Body and Soul." Not essential music but a fine example of Getz's flexibility and creative instincts. STAN GETZ Billy Highstreet Samba 1981 CD / 320Kps Tracklist: 1. Hospitality Creek (9:49) 2.
