Artist.........: Steve Earle
Artist Info....:
Stephen 'Steve' Fain Earle born January 17, 1955 is an American
singer-songwriter known for his rock and country music as well as his
political views. He is also a published writer, a political activist
and has written and directed a play. When he first came to prominence
in 1986, he was viewed as a savior of country music (along with the
likes of Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam) and hailed by some as the
"new Bruce Springsteen"[citation needed]. In the later part of his
career, after troubles with the law, drug addiction and his uncompromising
viewpoints, he has become known as "the hardcore troubadour".
Album Info...: Guitar Town
On this 1986 debut, Steve Earle burst on the scene as a fully formed
songwriting master, synthesizing effortlessly the finest parts of
country-folk troubadours like Townes Van Zandt and the anthemic,
working-class rock of Bruce Springsteen. "Someday", a country-rock
masterpiece about a kid stuck pumping gas in a dead-end town, remains
the perfect realisation of this style, but with the exception of the
slight and silly "Little Rock 'N' Roller", most everything else here
(especially "Hillbilly Highway" and the heartbreaking ballad "My Old
Friend the Blues") comes awfully close.
