I did not do the conversion myself I received the fileset this way, but personally I would say both those reasons are valid.

IMHO I think anything above 24-96 tends to be overkill, and a waste of space. That being said if I had those original files I would have upped them in their unadulterated form. You can always convert files to whatever suits your needs. You should sign up to KAT "anonymous" so we could have this conversation in a proper forum.
