Album notes:

When SRV went to Japan for the first time, the Japanese audience went crazy over Double Trouble. At this time he was fully concentrated on his music, left all the drugs and alcohol problems behind him and just played the finest guitar for years. He swang his axe for his amazing intro to “Say What” with his wah-wah playing and found the highest bend possible, piching the strings with a mighty force. After a “Hello Tokyo” the band started from “Voodoo Chile”. The audience screamed when Stevies guitar was singing, wiggling it in front of his pelvis like Hendrix did.

Later on “Cold Shot” the heavy chorus effect shows the audience that makes his sound so outstanding and great. On “Couldn’t Stand The Weather”, Stevie worked that driving funk groove out. He flubbed the lyrics, thinking only on his guitar. Later he changed to his white Strat for “Tin Pan”. He played laid back and grooved talking from his heart. Voices cried out after every twelfth bar and his face was in terrible pain. When he jumped into “Love Struck Baby” he tossed his hat into the mike stand playing the thing behind his head. He busted a string switching over to “Texas Flood” with a blasting tone. He swung around, unplugged the instrumentin mid-solo and replugged it playing the number with both eyes clossed. He returned for an encore of “Lenny”. He sat relaxed, smoking a pipe and played his masterpiece of the night. Jumping out of the blues, he launched into “Testify”. Here he almost went crazy. He played his guitar in all position ways from upside down, sideways, back-handed to one handed. And after all that it was time to say “Goodnight Tokyo”.
