Enjoy! history: 27 year old then-thought-to-be-pedophile John began playing guitar with 14 year old down-the-street neighbor Jud in his garage in late 1997 in the quiet suburb of Homewood, Alabama. Jud brought his best friend, 13 year old Walker into the fold to play his $50 drum kit over the two guitarists. Jud switched to bass in early '98 to fill out the band's sound. The band played instrumental jams that encompassed everything from reggae to death metal, with no vocals. After throwing around several band names, the trio agreed on Stone Cold Dildo, after an inside joke. They recorded their first 4-track demo, "So Damn Heavy" in August of 98, which comprised of one original song and 2 other instrumental jams. Later in 98, they brought in Jake, a friend of the band, as a vocalist. Jake shared duties with Walker, who switched to vocals. They also brought in Anthony, another friend of the band, to play drums. The new Stone Cold Dildo lineup played their first show in John's Garage on Halloween of 1998 to a very enthusiastic crowd. The show would become an annual affair until the band's last one in 2004. The band then went on hiatus for the rest of the year and through the first half of 1999, due to John moving to Mobile temporarily for school. This led to a hardcore punk-pop hybrid side project called The Fruity Sweet Jesus Lords, which was the Stone Cold Dildo lineup with another guitarist in John's place. The new band played a handful of house shows, made one unofficial cassette tape and disbanded in May of 1999. This motivated Jud to compile the "So Damn Heavy" EP, which contained Then the original SCD lineup got back together in mid-99 and began playing again once John decided to move back. They brought Jake back in on vocals, and Walker was back to drums. Jud's cousin Zac came in on saxophone occasionally as well. The band recorded their first full-length, "The Last Seduction II", consisting of mainly instrumental jams, along with original songs and comedy skits, and independently released it in October of 1999. They immediately followed it up with "16 Country Western Hits from Maysville" in April of 2000, which also contained jams, but had more of a focus on shorter, original hard rock-leaning songs with vocals, such as "Libby is a Rock Bitch" and "Wish I was Soused". Jake quit shortly after due to creative differences between band members, along with Zac. The band compiled their first video collection, entitled the SCD Homo Video, which contained live videos as well as school projects the younger band members created involving the band. At the same time, the band put together the "Bon Ronstadt" EP, which contained several jams and some original songs written for "16 Country.." but weren't included on the album. It was back to the original lineup in 2001, and the band members continued to record their lengthy funk, metal, and rock jams. They released another full length, "Arse d'Triomphe" in November 2001, consisting of many lengthy jams from 2000 and 2001. Once "Arse" was released, the band grew very tired of jamming and needed a new direction. John wrote a song called "Fuck Homewood", which he decided he would sing himself, and the flood gates opened. The band began taking on vocal duties themselves, and the jamming was officially over. SCD, now more confident in themselves than ever, booked their first show at a real music venue, the Rock n' Horse in downtown Birmingham, in May of 2002. They began playing the Rock n' Horse regularly, along with other venues in town through the rest of 2002 and the beginning of 2003. They scored their first out-of-town gig opening for Daikaiju in Tuscaloosa in May of 2003. Jud moved to Nashville in August of 2003, which put a kink in SCD's plans, but the band continued on. They released another full-length, entitled "Ejaculatte". Jud drove down every 2 weeks to practice with the band and play shows. SCD played their first out-of-state show in Murfreesboro, TN in March of 2004. The band seemed unstoppable.. playing gigs in Alabama and Tennessee constantly. 2005 came around, and things changed. John was going through family problems, and Jud was getting more involved in the music scene in Nashville as well as college, and it was getting harder and more expensive to go back and forth to Birmingham every other weekend. Walker joined another band, Salesman, as their bassist in early 2005, and they began gigging and touring constantly. SCD booked their last show at the Muse in Nashville, TN in April of 2005. It became obvious that the end had come once the crowd dwindled down to one person by the time SCD hit the stage. The members of SCD were convinced to do a one-off reunion show at Cave 9 in Birmingham in March of 2008 as part of a 5 year anniversary weekend celebration for the venue. That was the only reunion since the break-up, but it was a good one. John now lives with his wife and children in Hoover, AL and is not currently playing music with anyone. Walker, however, is playing drums for Ex-Members of the Holy Trinity, as well as playing bass for the Judy Garland Death Squad and Legion. Jud still lives in Nashville and is playing guitar and singing for the Werewolf Killers. He has compiled everything SCD has ever recorded into digital form and is currently distributing it for free over the internet while writing endless biographies about the band.
