Sadly enough, the mindset of the people, both men and women, who condone such gruesome acts and even encourage them are not going to change over night. This way of thinking is so engrained in culture it's going to take generations for it to change.

Education of women is not the main solution. It's how children are raised, how a father treats his wife and daughter and how brothers are brought up to treat their sisters as equals. And it's about how the culture of "what would the neighbours think" keeps a large part of the society in a chokehold.

I wish the women of India good luck with their struggle for equality. And not just the women of India. Atrocities like this still happen on so many places on Earth where the 21 century hasn't yet entered the consciousness of the people, even though they have TV and internet on their mobile phones.
