Description The Surf MC’s were a rap trio from California that consisted of Paul Rodriguez, Ivan Mumm and Tony Gilmour (with special guest Phil Kettner). *Finally* tracked down a CD version of this album. In 1987, the trio released their only album “Surf or Die.” The title song Surf Or Die was released as the only single and it managed to peak at #90 on Billboard’s Hot Singles chart, hanging around for 3 weeks. This was one of those rare awesomely-bad groups that deserves more recognition for how wonderfully terrible they were. They existed in that perfect time and place in the late 80's when surf culture met pop fashion and then...*blip*...they were gone. It's a shame really, but now they serve as the perfect representatives from a time not too long ago... This isn't a band, it's an experience.
