The Surf MC’s were a rap trio from California that consisted of Paul Rodriguez, Ivan Mumm and Tony Gilmour (with special guest Phil Kettner).

In 1987, the trio released their only album “Surf or Die.”

The title song Surf Or Die was released as the only single and it managed to peak at #90 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 3 weeks.

This is one of those rare awesomely-bad groups that can't help but nod your head along with the beat. They existed in that perfect time and place in the late 80's when surf culture met pop fashion and then...*blip*...they were gone. It's a shame, really, but now they serve as the perfect representatives from a time not too long ago...

This isn't a band, it's an experience.
