Svartsot set forth upon their brutal journey from Randers, Denmark, in early 2005 leaving a trail of orphans, bastards and satisfied maidens in their wake. Their melodic, yet crushing iron riffage fused to folk music and growled Danish vocals became the trademark platform that has been utilized with merciless efficiency to deliver sinister tales from Denmark’s history, mythology, and folklore. Whistles and other folk instruments are included in the songs to further strengthen their tasty tunes and provide a more authentic, folky and traditional feel to the ensemble.

Svartsot recorded two demos (Svundne Tider in 2005 and Tvende Ravne in 2006) before signing to Napalm Records and recording the brutally acclaimed debut album ‘Ravnenes Saga’. Unfortunately, the line-up from Ravnenes Saga proved to be relatively short-lived.

In October 2008, whistler Stewart Lewis announced that he would be taking a break from the band for an indefinite period and with further pressure already brewing from within through various differences in musical opinion, four of the members decided to depart in December of the same year. This left lead guitarist and master tunesmith Cris J.S. Frederiksen as the sole active member.


Determined to keep the band alive, Cris recruited new members in early 2009. This ‘new’ Svartsot was completed in February 2009 and ready to smite the Danish stages once again by early March. Not wishing to waste further time, or drinking opportunities, work immediately began in earnest for the much anticipated follow up album. With the completion of 14 mighty new tunes in their weapons chest, Svartsot entered the magnificent Lasse Lammert’s LSD studios in Lübeck, Germany, to record what would become known as ‘Mulmets Viser’ or Songs of the Darkness.

So strap on your hardened and tempered iron battle trousers, grab yourself a particularly large mug of incredibly strong ale and we shall meet you in a darkened inn on some sinister road for a night of awesome folk metal and thunderous debauchery

SVARTSOT IS A NON-POLITICAL AND NON-RELIGIOUS BAND. We dissociate ourselves from all political and religious ideals. ALL present and future references to major and/or minor divinities and use of symbolism in our imagery are based purely on references to the culture-historical heritage of Denmark.
