disaster

NOTE

Like most documentaries the video specs of this DVD were quite

a challenge. The 16:9 AR of the DVD resulted in bloated heads

and 4:3 made people very slim. It seems the mastering company

couldnt decide on an AR that would work well for the various

sources this movie is composed of, and chose something in the

middle, and then stretched it to fill a 16:9 frame. We tried to

make the people look as human as possible, which seems to be

around an 1.6:1 AR.

Wake up America, the coffee is on!,

This may finally wake up the average American to what is about to happen to our economy and way of life in very short order. Most smart economists, politicians and business people have known for years that the feathers are soon to hit the fan. Ran Paul, Peter Schiff and others have been warning us for some time but very few have listened. Things have actually become considerably worse since this movie was made. The new housing bill will be the stick that breaks the camels back. Better batten down the hatches folks, the perfect storm is about to hit. Even if you are not one who normally pays much attention to economic data please see this movie and at least try to understand the scope of the disaster that is about to befall us in the next 1-2 years. This is not reality TV its just REALITY.

Must see For All Ages,

This movie is not for policy wonks, economists, or accountants. It's for citizens of the United States - Highly Patriotic citizens who want to preserve their country.

It spells out in superb graphics what we're up against financially. The film has a great pace, lots of color, and combines all sorts of mediums to make an excellent presentation of the information.

The message is dark, but brutally honest. And there is yet hope, so I encourage you to see the movie to find out what it is.

I am absolutely convinced if the electorate saw and understood these issues, we would be willing to make the hard choices quite gladly, and reward politicians who were clear, transparent and honest, and send packing those who's egos and greed keep them in Washington.

What ever happened to civil service as a moral ideal?

****************************

The USA is bankrupt!,

I wanted to say that every American Citizen and every member of our government needs to see this movie. I think that it should be mandatory for all members of our federal and congressional budget offices to see this. Our country is in a 53 trillion dollar financial hole and is probably even deeper with all of these stimulus packages. I worry about the quality of life our grandchildren will have with our government so broke and indebted. Additionally, the national savings rate being negative is also a major concern and may have contributed to the financial crisis we are in today. When the baby boomers start retiring, the amount of spending for social security and medicare alone could bankrupt America, if we are not broke already. We need to get smart and reshape a lot of programs to eliminate waste, reduce or eliminate social security and medicare for those that don't need it, and work on ways of increasing federal revenue.

Plot Outline: I.O.U.S.A. boldly examines the rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the United States and its citizens. As the Baby Boomer generation prepares to retire, will there even be any Social Security benefits left to collect? Burdened with an ever-expanding government and military, increased international competition, overextended entitlement programs, and debts to foreign countries that are becoming impossible to honor, America must mend its spendthrift ways or face an economic disaster of epic proportions. Throughout history, the American government has found it nearly impossible to spend only what has been raised through taxes. Wielding candid interviews with both average American taxpayers and government officials, Sundance veteran Patrick Creadon (Wordplay) helps demystify the nation's financial practices and policies. The film follows U.S. Comptroller General David Walker as he crisscrosses the country explaining America's unsustainable fiscal policies to its citizens. With surgical precision, Creadon interweaves archival footage and economic data to paint a vivid and alarming profile of America's current economic situation. The ultimate power of I.O.U.S.A. is that the film moves beyond doomsday rhetoric to proffer potential financial scenarios and propose solutions about how we can recreate a fiscally sound nation for future generations. Written by Anonymous In February 2007, the United States federal debt stood at $8.7 trillion, more than doubling over the term of George W. Bush's presidency. The situation will only get worse over time with known future spending such as payment of social security to the baby boom generation. The issues? The United States has had a history of consumption, spending more than it has available, especially during war years, most specifically during World War II and the Iraq conflict of the 21st century. There is also a history of non saving, both by the government and by individuals which leads to lack of investment moneys. And in the new global economy, the United States has the highest trade deficit in the world, reliant on other countries, especially China which holds more than half of the United States' treasury bonds. Overriding these issues is a lack of political leadership, politicians who really don't seem to know how to get the country out of this financial hole. Written by Huggo
