Today this album is primarily remembered as the answer to a trivia question: What album did SPIN magazine name "Album of the Year" in 1991 instead of "Nevermind" by Nirvana? That's an absolute shame; while there's no debating that with the 20/20 vision of hindsight Nevermind was the singular cultural touchstone of the year, Teenage Fanclub's "Bandwagonesque" remains a near-perfect power-pop album beginning to end. Wearing their Big Star influences on their sleeves and yet sounding original, fuzzy guitars that somehow make for crystal-clear sounding songs, and vocals from two singers whose voices are so similar you have to refer to the liner notes to see who's on the mic, Bandwagonesque is still a ton of fun 25 years later.
