Movie Info:
Tenida is a very famous character in our Bengali literature that had been created by our leading Bengali novelist Narayan Gangopadhyay quite a few decades back. The tales of Tenida have been quite popular over the years especially to children as it is basically a children’s character. He is known to be a hopeless character who repeatedly fails in his class and asks his other 3 gang member-Kabla, Habu and Pela to do the same. Even though he is a thin character, he can devour absurd proportions of food and he is also a crowd. His gang members literally follow him around which is why he is the undisputed leader. He also has a knack of solving cases-that is landing up at strangest places and solving cases in the weirdest possible way in his own style! This character had been brought to screen in 1978 by Chinmoy Roy who played the part of Tenida in’ Char Murti’ which also starred Rabi Ghosh, Santosh Dutta and others. Since Tenida is supposed to be a ‘changra’ character’, it suited Chinmoy well and in that film Tenida lands up in at a forest with his group and in his own style , he manages to unveil the real identity of Swami Ghutghutananda , Gajeshwar and Seth Dhundauram who were running a business in producing fake currency.‘Aajker Tenida’ sees one major change. The previous Tenida turns director this time and the most suitable replacement Subhasish Mukherjee has replaced him. The story is also somewhat similar just that this time instead of Kabla’s uncle, the bungalow is owned by Teni’s uncle. The house is neither haunted nor has an eerie housekeeper, but there is a tribal group which is causing disturbance plus Swami Ghutghutananda, Gajeshwar and Seth Dhundauram. As usual Subhasish who plays Tenida well solves the case in his own inimitable style. The story is all right till the first half but in the second half, it becomes really bad. Had the director allowed the story to progress in it’s own way, it would not have been so way,but no,it doesn’t happen. Also,it should be mentioned that Teni manages to floor a ‘terrorist’ with a ‘sleeping ‘ bullet and even manages to land on an elephant’s back and travel quite a way till he is restored back to health with an injection meant for elephants by a false doctor! The part involving the animals are footages taken from elsewhere and the part involving Tenida and the elephant is animation. Even that is all right. Where it goes all wrong is the sub plot involving the tribals and specially the part involving the second group headed by a lady where everyone speaks half English Half Bengali and talks about India being our friend and inter country matters! It seems to be atrocious even in a children’s film! If some other subplot could have been introduced, it would have been much better. This simply massacres the film and prolongs the agony! The film is a much delayed project because an actor and actress feature in the film both of whom are no longer with us, Bibhu Bhattacharya and Jui Banerjee (Chinmoy Roy’s wife). In the film we also see a brand being marketed (in this case the producer of this film, the Tower Group’s water ambulance). The actors who play Habu, Kabla and Pela have done their job. It is just that the plot goes haywhere because of the introduction of the atrocious subplot.
