A depiction of the rise of Texas from the Battle of the Alamo to San Jacinto. A story told through the lives of the men who gave everything up to defend an infant country from a ruthless Dictator and savage Native Americans, and paved the way for the Republic of Texas to emerge.

Il western, genere principe del cinema statunitense, torna sul piccolo schermo con Texas Rising, serie tv firmata da Roland Joffe', regista pluricandidato all'Oscar e gia' vincitore della Palma d'Oro per Mission

Per questo dramma storico in salsa western il cineasta francese sceglie di rispolverare un formato cinematografico oggi poco usato, ma che negli anni '50 e '60 era molto in auge, il cinemascope, la cui particolarita' consiste nel deformare le immagini riprese per ottenere fotogrammi a largo campo visivo, e, proprio per questo, e' particolarmente indicato per riprodurre al meglio il deserto americano caratterizzato da sconfinate pianure spoglie e assolate.

Accanto alla regia di Joffe' e al tocco vintage, Texas Rising si segnala anche per l'accurata ricostruzione storica e il cast stellare che comprende attori come Ray Liotta (Quei bravi ragazzi, Hannibal), Bill Paxton (Terminator, Titanic), Brendan Fraser (La Mummia, Crash), Olivier Martinez (L'ussaro sul tetto, Unfaithful - L'amore infedele), Crispin Glover (Charlie's Angels), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Star Trek Into The Darkness) e Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Motel Woodstock). La storia e' ambientata durante la guerra di indipendenza del Texas (1835-1836), quando il paese era ancora proprieta' del Messico e i coloni americani intrapresero una feroce battaglia contro il governo messicano per annettere la regione agli Stati Uniti d'America.

La serie prende il via da uno dei momenti cruciali di quella guerra: la famosa Battaglia di Alamo che vide i messicani attaccare una fortezza occupata dai texani, massacrando tutti gli occupanti e scatenando cosi' una reazione violentissima che porto' da una parte alla nascita dei Texas Rangers, una sorta di 'forze speciali' dedicate a missioni di ricognizione e pronto intervento, e dall'altra fu decisiva per la vittoria finale. Al centro del racconto il generale Sam Houston (Bill Paxton) e una variopinta galleria di personaggi: il ranger Billy Anderson (Brendan Fraser), il rivoluzionario texano Deaf Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), il generale Antonio Lopez (Oliver Martinez), capo dell'esercito messicano, Tom Mitchell (Ray Liotta), un sopravvissuto al massacro di Alamo che diventa uno spietato assassino di soldati messicani e tanti altri.
