Description
This Soviet/Russian series is considered by many to be one of the best film adaptations of the popular British "Sherlock Holmes" books. Directed by Igor Maslennikoff, this series stars:
Vasiliy Livanoff as Sherlock Holmes; Vitaliy Solomin as John Watson, M.B., Ch.B.; Borislav Brondukoff as D.I. Lestrade; Boris Kluyeff as Mycroft Holmes; and Rena Zelenaya as Mrs Hudson The series was originally written as television episodes, of which there were eleven; these combined to make five films, like a Mexican telenovela. In the opinion of most Sherlock fans who have seen it, this series is the closest to the books as written, although it glosses over exactly which country Dr Watson served in, and drops Holmes' addiction entirely. The series is remarkable for its attention to detail, particularly where authenticity is concerned. At times, the series uses dialogue from the books verbatim, creating a feel that is quite in keeping with Victorian London. It cannot have been easy to replicate Victorian London in Soviet Russia, and yet the producers have managed to do an excellent job in this regard, both the sets and the costumes reflecting perfectly the period, and while occasionally the buildings and interior sets are perhaps a little too ornate for London, it does not distract (too much) from the overall feel of the series. It is obvious that a lot of money went into making this series. The production quality is outstanding, complete with well directed cinematography and an elaborate score. In short, there is nothing this series is lacking. Truly, it represents the pinnacle of Sherlock Holmes television. So, why isn't it available on BitTorrent? Well, there is one torrent on TPB with this exact series, but it's a low-res Xvid version with hard subtitles. Hayull no. I looked on the Russian sites, and there it was, on nnm-club.ru. Duly downloaded and placed on KAT and TorrentBox, so the rest of the world can just as easily download this excellent series. There is also a back-up link: http://torrage.com/torrent/5DA6383CACA50367839CD675904168BCA2724608.torrent Please use this occasionally as well, as the link will die if not used for six months.
