REVIEW FROM GIBSON.COM

The Allman Brothers Band continued their assault on New York City and the Beacon Theater last night with one of the stand’s most blistering shows yet, welcoming Sheryl Crow and members of the ’70s southern rock outfit Cowboy to the stage for some unforgettable moments.

After opening the night with favorites "Don't Want You No More" and It Ain't My Cross To Bear," the Brothers ripped into "Trouble No More" and "Rocking Horse," before settling down to the soulful "Soulshine." The band tore through "You Don't Love Me" and the new instrumental they've now performed three times during this year's Beacon run, and then welcomed former Cowboy guitarists Tommy Talton and Scott Boyer, who joined the band for a rendition of “Please Be With Me,” a song featured on the Duane Allman Anthology. Talton, Boyer and the Brothers were later joined by Levon Helm keyboardist Brian Mitchell to close out the first set with “All My Friends” and “The Got Song.”

Mitchell remained onstage at the beginning of the second set, as the Brothers welcomed Crow to the stage by ripping into a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Takes A Lot To Laugh (A Train To Cry).” Crow remained on stage and assumed some of the vocal duties from Gregg Allman on “Midnight Rider,” and it turned out she was warming up for the band’s first-ever live performance of the Blind Faith classic, “Can’t Find My Way Home.”

From there, the Brothers assumed control of the stage and proceeded to do what they do best – blow the roof off the place! The band barreled through versions “Statesboro Blues,” “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More,” and “Hoochie Coochie Man” before welcoming Boyer and Mitchell back to the stage for the Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” during which Gregg Allman’s voice finally showed the strains of playing seven shows in just nine days.
