Storyline

John Steed works for British Intelligence and always has a female partner. The problems he finds are always a bit odd, just on the edge of science fiction (Cyborg killers, a city built

under a disused coal mine, a gang put together for adrenalin junkies, and a killer who uses a concentrated cold virus to kill his victims by having them sneeze to death). Steed is always

the ultimate in culture and grace as he saves the world each week.

Agente speciale (The Avengers nell'originale inglese) è una serie televisiva britannica prodotta negli anni sessanta. Tratta di agenti segreti in un'ambientazione di fantasia. Il programma,

prodotto dalla compagnia televisiva Associated British Corporation e ideato da Sydney Newman, è uno dei primi esempi del genere fanta-spionistico (SpyFi in inglese) che combina trame di

spionaggio con elementi fantascientifici.

La serie si compone di 6 stagioni, nelle quali il protagonista John Steed, un agente speciale, è affiancato da un partner nella risoluzione delle indagini, spesso ai confini della realtà.

In queste 6 stagioni, John Steed è sempre impersonato da Patrick Macnee. Tutte le stagioni sono state realizzate in Inghilterra, dal gennaio 1961 al settembre 1969, le prime 4 in b/n e le

ultime 2 a colori per un totale di 161 episodi. La sigla di coda della serie è il brano Avengers (di G. Ferrio, P. Cassia e F. Monti Arduini), cantato da Nancy Cuomo. Fu un notevole

successo, anche radiofonico.
