Such a decision creates complications with investors, as never before someone had bet against the system and taken advantage. By knowing these investments, Jared Vennett broker (Ryan Gosling) realizes the opportunity and starts to offer it to your customers. One of them is Mark Baum (Steve Carell), who owns a brokerage facing personal problems since his brother committed suicide. At the same time, two beginners in the stock market realize that they can earn a lot of money to invest in real estate crisis and, therefore, ask for help to a Wall Street guru, Ben Rickert (Brad Pitt), who lives recluse.
