Description



12th and 13th century music figure on this disc, all of it French. It's usually forgotten that Eleanor and her husband, Henry II of England, thought of themselves as French, and as French rulers--and England as French territory. You'll find no Ango-Saxon songs here, but trouvere and troubadour works that were extremely popular at the time, and have survived more by luck and scholarship to the present age than by constant care.

Transfers are made at 256 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Essay in English, French and German, original texts and English translations provided.
