The Natural Step - A Framework for Achieving Sustainability in Our Organizations
Karl-Henrik Robèrt 1997 - Cambridge - Pegasus The Natural Step is a federation of professional associations in Sweden—economists, physicians, business leaders, lawyers, entertainers, and so on—that is working toward developing a sustainable society. This large-scale social and environmental movement began in 1988 and now comprises about 19 associations and 10,000 people. Karl-Henrik Robèrt, the founder of this initiative and former head of the cancer research department of Karolinsica Institute in Sweden, explains the movement's central premise: 'If you want a large number of people to work together in a coordinated way, they must share an image of the system of which they are a part.' The "system," in this case, is the entirety of the Earth's ecological structure, with all its attendant natural processes—and the goal is to develop a society in which natural resources are not consumed faster than they can be replaced.
