Description

Formado en 1962, a los Rolling Stones se les ha presentado siempre como los rivales históricos de The Beatles. Dentro de esta comparación, los Stones representaron la corriente más agresiva de la música rock, aun cuando alcanzaron el estrellato de mano de la canción I wanna be your man, compuesta por los beatles John Lennon y Paul McCartney.

De hecho, hasta 1965 los Stones no empezaron a publicar sus propios temas, como habitualmente compuestas por el cantante Mick Jagger y el guitarrista Keith Richards, mucho más infuidos por el rhythm & blues que por el propio rock & roll que marcó al grupo de Liverpool. En 1969, Jones falleció durante el transcurso de una fiesta al caer en una piscina tras haber ingerido gran cantidad de alcohol; su lugar en el grupo fue ocupado en un principio por el guitarrista Mick Taylor. En 1976, Taylor abandonó la formación y fue reemplazado por Ron Wood.

Los Rolling Stones destacan por ser un grupo de una extraordinaria longevidad, pues en 1964 iniciaron su primera gira de conciertos por Estados Unidos y todavía en 1997 llevaron a cabo una gira mundial de presentación del disco Bridges to Babylon. Este hecho, unido a su calidad musical, los ha convertido en verdaderos mitos de la música popular.

Aparte de su faceta musical, Mick Jagger ha realizado dos películas como actor, Performance (1970), filme de estética psicodélica en el que el propio Jagger muestra el camaleónico estilo de su íntimo amigo David Bowie, y Freejack (1992). Junto al inmenso reconocimiento popular de que disfrutan a nivel mundial, los Stones recibieron en 1986 el Grammy por su carrera musical y en 1989 fueron incluidos en el Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

En 1993, Keith Richards pasó a formar parte del Hall of Fame de compositores de canciones y en 1994 la cadena estadounidense MTV otorgó al grupo su premio en reconocimiento a su carrera artística. Además, el 10 de noviembre de 1994 los Rolling Stones se convirtieron en el primer grupo de rock & roll que retransmitieron un concierto en directo a través de Internet.image
