The Sentimental Swordsman is a 1977 Hong Kong wuxia film directed by Chor Yuen and produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, starring Ti Lung, Derek Yee, Ching Li, Yueh Hua, Fan Mei-sheng and Ku Feng. The film is based on Duoqing Jianke Wuqing Jian of Gu Longs Xiaoli Feidao Series of novels. The film was followed by a sequel: Return of the Sentimental Swordsman in 1981. An in-name-only sequel, Perils of the Sentimental Swordsman, was released in 1982, with no relation to the principal character of Little Flying Dagger Li.

Due to his own extreme ideals, famed swordsman Li has lost everyone dear to him. After his life is saved by a rival swordsman, Li's overwhelming pride means he forsakes the woman he loves and lets her marry his saviour. Now resigned to traveling the country with his loyal aide, Li.s only comfort is alcohol and the simple life he has now accepted. On one such journey, the lonely swordsman befriends the exceptionally skilled, yet secretive Fei who has his own pressures to contend with. Li then finds himself embroiled in a battle to own the highly-prized 'gold armour shirt' - a protective vest that can withstand any blow. As he discovers that many of the people he meets have a hidden agenda, Li realizes that Fei is the only man he can truly trust.

This new friendship is put under test when the 'sentimental swordsman' is hunted down by numerous hired killers and framed for a series of crimes he didn't commit. The person behind Li.s troubles proves to be elusive, though all the clues seem to point to the legendary 'Plum Blossom Bandit', a disguised figure whose identity has long proved elusive to the martial world.

Return of the Sentimental Swordsman, also known as The Flying Blade, is a 1981 Hong Kong wuxia film directed by Chor Yuen(this was his 100th feature film) and produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, based on Gu Long's Xiaoli Feidao series of novels. It stars Ti Lung, Alexander Fu and Derek Yee. Following the first movie, this sequel (it is not actually a sequal) to Sentimental Swordsman (1977). It was one of Shaw Brothers' highest grossing films in the studio's history.

Li Xunhuan comes back to his home after three years of wandering. He is decided to have a normal life, but a group of skilled martial arts fighters and leaders are bent on killing him, so they can be ranked top by Bai Xiaosheng in his renowned list of the best warriors in the martial arts world. Li Xunhuan battles them as he searches for his estranged friend Ah fei, who is now married and living in seclusion. Li asks Ah fei to join forces and fight against a new threat that wants to rule the world: the Money Clan.

Perils of the Sentimental Swordsman is a 1982 Hong Kong film adapted from Youling Shanzhuang of Gu Long's Lu Xiaofeng novel series. Bearing no similarity in plot what-so-ever with the first
two Sentimental Swordsman movies, "Perils" is a weird movie with a misguided title, which combines titles of two novels. In the film, the original protagonist, Lu Xiaofeng, was replaced by
Chu Liuxiang, the lead character of another novel series by Gu Long. The film was directed by Chor Yuen, produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, and starred Ti Lung. It was preceded by Clans
of Intrigue (1977) and Legend of the Bat (1978).

This is one of the last of Yuen Chor's wuxia epics for the Shaw studios. While he created some better films during the 1970's this is certainly one of his best from 1980's. Ti Lung once again
reprises his role as the Sentimental Swordsman, although this time he's armed with an iron fan since he ditched the sword in a previous film. The film starts with the honest swordsman, in a
surprising move, attacking the kindly Eighth Prince in his bedroom. The prince survives the attack and sends the best martial artists after Ti Lung. The swordsman flees to the legendary
"Ghost Village" a place only inhabited by criminals. A mysterious stranger in black is also after Ti Lung. Ti Lung gets to the village but he finds himself in the middle of intrigue and spooky
happenings.

Once again we have a parade of colorful and strange martial artists. One man has a mighty thumb of gold, another rings a bell that shakes trees. Characters regularly move around by jumping from one concealed trampoline to another. There's a big, well choreographed fight every six or seven minutes and the sets are over the top kitsch. In other words, it's a lot of fun. There's barely any connection to the previous Sentimental Swordsman films except that Ti Lung is the main character and characters related to characters from the previous films show up to kill the swordsman.
