In het land van Moab wordt Ruth als kind door haar vader verkocht aan een Moabitische sekte die jonge meisjes offeren aan de god Chemosh.
Als door een wonder ontsnapt ze aan het offerblok en groeit op tot de beeldschone priesteres Ruth, die de kleine Tebah gereed maakt voor haar dag van het 'eeuwige geluk'.
Door toeval leert ze de Joodse goudsmid Mahlon kennen die haar vertelt over een andere God.
Een God van barmhartigheid, liefde en mededogen.
Ze raakt zo in de ban van zijn verhalen dat ze steeds meer begint te twijfelen aan haar god en het aanstaande offerfeest van Tebah.

Inspired by the tale from Hebrew scriptures and the Christian Bible, the Moabitess child Ruth is sold to the temple of Chemosh.
Years pass and she serves as a priestess to the idol.
While arranging a temple ritual, she encounters a Judean family of artisans: Elimelech, his wife Naomi, their sons Chilion and Mahlon, and daughter-in-law Orpah.
Ruth is curious about their God, and begins to meet secretly with Mahlon.
After tragedy strikes, Ruth follows Naomi and begins a new life in Bethlehem...
