The Super Friendz - Slide Show [1997] ALAC

The Super Friendz' second full-length album is a slight improvement over the impressive Mock Up/Scale Down, as Slide Show gives more bounce for the buck. Slicker and sharper than Mock Up, with plenty of harmonized back vocals, hand claps, and tambourines, Slide Show is breezy and energetic but doesn't succumb to bubblegum vapidity. Unforgettable tracks like "Prattle On," "Forever a Day," "Up and Running" and "No Good Reason" showcase the group's penchant for outstanding hooks and harmonies. (Comparisons to fellow Haligonians Sloan are inevitable, but the Super Friendz owe more to Television and the Kinks than anyone else.) The album has snippets of melancholy intertwined with its merriness; rather than the cheerfully young feel of Mock Up, Slide Show sounds a little older, wiser -- and better.
