E. R. Eddison wrote four fantasy novels in the early 20th century. The first one published was The Worm Ouroboros, where Lessingham, in a dream maybe, goes to "Mercury" and observes events among the inhabitants; the other three take place in Zimiamvia, which is the Paradise of the characters in the first book.

This is not science-fiction like Amber or even pretend-history like Tolkien's Middle Earth, but purest fantasy. The logic is that of dreams, the language the kind that makes you reach for a pen to try to write it all down when you awaken.

I have chosen covers from the internet that seemed suitable, but removed all the forewords, afterwords, etc. of various editions, so that the story might speak for itself. -- Sirius
