Because it's x265/HEVC and can't be compared to x264 and XVID.

Same folks assume that if the audio isn't DTS 1500kbs that it's shit. And they ask why there isn't DTS audio in a 80mb South Park episode.

Could you ~=please=~ keep the .ssa or .srts external?
That way they can be edited and cleaned, if wanted.
Otherwise need to strip out the subs and mux back the a/v file,
one episode at a time.

External subs are a pain, and auto activate, when not wanted.
