2010 marks the centenary of the Tour de France's first foray into the Pyrenees. Back in 1910, amidst talk of riders being washed away in floods or eaten by bears. Tour director Henri Desgrange decided that the eighth edition of his fledgling race would send the riders into unknown cycling territory. Desgrange's decision changed the Tour and bike racing forever. 100 Years in the Pyrenees charts some of the most famous exploits witnessed in that high-mountain range, from the early days of the Tour when riders raced over rough roads on stages running through the night, to Eddy Merckx's epic solo break over the Aubisque to seal the 1969 Tour, and into the modern era when Lance Armstrong was brought down by a fan's souvenir bag but still won on Luz Ardiden.
