after downloading. remove the "extra" param.sfo located in the folder "exe"- ps3-bink. that pretty much it does the trick. as for the fix, i applied the 3.55 fix for the Eur-version and it worked. confirmed working either internal or external with disc inside. im on 3.55 by the way and 3.55 is still very much alive!
