If your computer struggles to play high bit rate 720p/1080p content, then I would advise you to download and install the DivX Plus Codec pack, which contains the DivX H.264 decoder and disable your current H.264 decoder. I've tested it extensively on my netbook and it is a much faster decoder than CoreAVC for H.264 video. All you have to do is change a few settings once installed and you should be good to go. A quick note, when installing it, you only have to install the codec pack, not the other software included.
DivX Plus Codec Pack
Open up the Codec Settings in the DivX folder and under Playback Settings > Advanced, make sure Hardware deinterlace is checked under All. Then under H.264, uncheck the Deblocking option and lastly scroll down to ASP and set it to Custom deblocking and then on the bar slide the arrow to Off.
