Umieszczona w realiach II Wojny Światowej opowieść o śmiałej, ściśle tajnej misji zdobycia pilnie strzeżonej, należącej do nazistów maszyny kodującej. Członkowie załogi amerykańskiej łodzi podwodnej mają udawać Niemców, by dostać się na pokład U-boota i wykraść bezcenną maszynę. Nieoczekiwany splot okoliczności powoduje, że zostają uwięzieni w niemieckiej łodzi podwodnej, w głębi nieprzyjaznych wód, z dylematem - jak obsługiwać obcą łódż.
