U.K. – 1979 - Night After Night (2014 Japanese Limited SHM-SACD) [FLAC@88.2khz24bit] U.K. Wikipedia: U.K. are a British progressive rock supergroup originally active from 1977 until 1980. The band was composed of singer/bassist John Wetton (formerly of King Crimson, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry's band and Uriah Heep), keyboardist/electric violinist Eddie Jobson (formerly of Curved Air, Roxy Music and Frank Zappa's band), guitarist Allan Holdsworth (formerly of Tempest, Soft Machine, The New Tony Williams Lifetime and Gong) and drummer Bill Bruford (formerly a full member of Yes and King Crimson, and also a tour drummer for Genesis), later replaced by drummer Terry Bozzio (formerly of Frank Zappa's band). UK reformed with John Wetton, Eddie Jobson and Terry Bozzio for a world tour in 2012. Recorded in early June 1979 at Nakano Sun Plaza and Seiken Kan, Tokyo, Japan, it is UK's third album and their first live album, released in September 1979 in support of the band's US tour supporting Jethro Tull (which Eddie Jobson joined after UK's split), and later headlining European tour. According to Eddie Jobson, the album was recorded at the request of Polydor in Tokyo, originally intended for a Japan-only release, but Polydor in the US were also interested in releasing it. The title track and "As Long As You Want Me Here" do not appear on any studio release by the band. The title track was released also as a single (in a slightly edited version), with a non-LP studio track as a B-side titled "When Will You Realize" that has yet to appear on any CD (although it was re-recorded with different lyrics on John Wetton's solo album Caught in the Crossfire in 1980). This track is said to be the one that split up UK. AllMusic Review by Ken Dryden: The third and final record by the progressive rock trio U.K. was recorded during a 1979 concert in Japan, although it was not released until after the group disbanded; by this time the group featured bassist and lead vocalist John Wetton with ex-Zappa sidemen Eddie Jobson (keyboards and electric violin) and drummer Terry Bozzio. "Night After Night" serves a driving opener, followed by "Rendezvous 6:02," primarily a feature for Jobson's keyboard wizardry. The instrumental "Alaska" is a bit bombastic on the scale of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, though the hard-rocking "In the Dead of Night" makes up for it. Jobson switches to violin for the high-energy closer, "Caesar's Palace Blues" (which is not actually a blues). This is easily the best of U.K.'s rather small discography. 01.
