Abstract: THE ENCYCLOPEDIA COVERS THE FOLLOWING ITEMS: (1) MILITARY AND INDUSTRIAL EXPLOSIVES, EXPLOSIVE COMPOSITIONS, PROPELLANTS, AND PYROTECHNIC COMPOSITIONS; (2) EXPLOSIVES AND EXPLOSIVE COMPOSITIONS OTHER THAN MILITARY OR INDUSTRIAL; (3) ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES FOR THE MORE COMMON COMPOSITIONS; (4) COMPOUNDS WHICH MAY EXPLODE BECAUSE OF THE PRESENCE OF PLOSOPHORIC GROUPS; (5) AMMUNITION ITEMS; (6) CALIBERS OF WEAPONS AND PROJECTILES; (7) BRIEF DEFINITIONS OF ORDNANCE TERMS; AND ( NAMES OF SCIENTISTS WHO HAVE MADE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE FIELD. LISTS ARE PROVIDED WHICH SUPPLEMENT THOSE GIVEN IN VOLUMES 1 THROUGH 6 OF THE ENCYCLOPEDIA; THESE CONTAIN ABBREVIATIONS FOR BOOKS AND PERIODICALS REFERENCED, AND TITLES OF BOOKS ON EXPLOSIVES, PROPELLANTS, PYROTECHNICS, AND ORDNANCE ITEMS.
