A biochemist and his wife arrive in Berlin for a conference at which a renowned scientist will announce breakthrough research. While his wife checks into the hotel, he grabs a cab back to the airport for his missing briefcase. En route, an auto accident puts him in a coma, from which he awakens four days later with serious memory issues, no identification, and no sign of his wife.
